Choosing a good password

To make it more difficult for someone else to guess your password, there are some rules about choosing a password. The password must be between eight and sixteen characters in length and must be combination of letters and numbers. For example, you won't be able to use a password like "AAAAAAAA" or "11111111", whereas, a password like "Int5ernet" is recommended as it incorporates both alpha and numeric characters and would be difficult to guess.

Other things you can do to make your password more secure:

• Do not base your password on something that other people know about you, like:
  • significant dates;
  • family names;
  • favourite things;
  • Pet names
• Do not use common words that appear in the dictionary;
• Do not choose the same password you use for other Internet sites.

Managing your password

Once you have chosen a secure password, you need to make sure that nobody else discovers what it is. The are some simple precautions you can take:

• Do not write your password down;
• Do not tell anyone what your password is;
• Do not use your password when people can see what you are typing.

It is also a good idea to change your password on a regular basis. The longer you use the same password, the more chance there is that somebody else might guess what it is. You can change your password from within the Internet Banking Service via the 'Other Serives' menu.

Computer Viruses

A computer virus is a program or piece of code that is loaded onto your computer without your knowledge and against your wishes. A virus can be transferred to your computer via your Internet connection or email and can distribute information from your computer, including passwords, to other users. They can also delete your files and damage your computer equipment.

Good Antivirus software is recommended for all computers, however, just having the Antivirus software on your computer is no good if it is not kept up to date. Most vendors of Antivirus software provide an update facility via their web sites.

Printing
