Arab Bank Australia opens a new branch at Westmead Hospital.

Arab Bank Australia is living true to it’s manta of being "ready for business", with the opening of a new branch at Westmead Hospital.

The decision to move into Westmead came after a branch was vacated by another financial institution, leaving the Hospital and campus without an on-site bank branch. The usual three month process of establishing a new retail branch was condensed to less than two weeks in order to accommodate the requirements of Hospital staff and visitors.

"We’re delighted that Arab Bank Australia will be providing financial services on the site of Westmead Hospital" says Prof Steven Boyages, Chief Executive, Sydney West Area Health Service. "Apart from providing an excellent range of products and services, Arab Bank Australia has a long association with the Hospital, and this is only set to grow stronger with the decision to open a retail branch within the Hospital. It’s a wonderful result for the entire campus".

The Bank has been a long time supporter and fundraiser of the Westmead Millennium Foundation, which raises money to support medical research at the Millennium Institute, and also provides financial support to Westmead Hospital and other programs. The value of this support over the past eight years runs into the hundreds of thousands of dollars.

With Managing Director James Wakim at the helm since 2001, the bank is in a prime position to serve staff and visitors to the hospital, in its traditional heartland of western Sydney. In addition to steering the bank’s financial success, Mr Wakim plays an active role in its community support programs.

He is a current director of the Board of the Westmead Millennium Foundation for medical research, having served as its Chairman for five years.

He is also an advisory board member of the Westmead Millennium Institute which is based at the hospital.
