On Wednesday 26th of November 2008 James Wakim hosted The Millennium Foundation Awards and the Westmead Millennium Institute (WMI) Science Prizes night. The evening was an opportunity to salute the efforts of all researchers at Westmead and acknowledge the talent and promise of the bright young researchers at the Institute.

On the night James presented a number of important to grants to over 20 talented researchers working in areas such as cancer research, heart and vision research, respiratory research and investigation into brain dynamics.

The coveted 'Derek and Shirley Howes Initiating Grant' was this year awarded Sarah Walker from the Storr Liver Unit and the 'Westmead Millennium Institute Award for Outstanding Contribution to Science Prize' was awarded to Professor Stephen Leeder.
